Ripped Seniors (rippedseniors.com, the Ripped Seniors YouTube channel and the Ripped Seniors newsletter) is run by me, Joe Burjoski, in Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what personal information I collect, why, who helps me handle it, and the choices you have. I’m the person responsible for it. Questions or requests: joe@rippedseniors.com.

The short version

  • I collect only what I need to send the newsletter, deliver free guides and paid ebooks, and decide what content to make.
  • I never sell your information.
  • The Belly Fat Calculator never asks who you are.
  • You can unsubscribe, or ask to see, correct or delete your information, at any time.

Newsletter and free guides

When you sign up, I collect your email address and (optional) first name, the date you signed up, and which guide or form you used. I use this to send you the newsletter and the guides you ask for, and to see which guides people find useful. My email service records whether emails are opened and which links are clicked, so I can tell what’s helpful. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Paid ebooks

When you buy an ebook, Kit and its payment processor, Stripe, collect your name, email address and payment details. I never see or store your full card number. I receive your name, email, what you bought and what you paid, and I keep those records for tax purposes as the law requires.

Belly Fat Calculator

When you start the calculator, a simple counter goes up; nothing about you is recorded. When you click “See my results,” your answers (units, age, sex, height, weight, waist, goal setting, activity level and lifting habits) are saved to a private Google Sheet that only I can access. On the results page, that same entry is updated with your later choices: your answer to the optional poll, any guide you click, whether you print, and your final goal and walking settings.

The calculator doesn’t ask for your name or email, your IP address isn’t recorded in the sheet, and I store the date but not the time, so I can’t tell which entry is yours. I look at the entries in aggregate to understand who uses the calculator and to decide which videos and guides to make. I may share overall findings (for example, “most people who use the calculator don’t lift weights yet”) in videos or emails. I never share or sell this data or publish individual entries. Because an entry can’t be linked to you, I can’t find or delete a specific one on request. I keep entries for up to 3 years.

Comments

If you comment on the website, I collect what you enter in the comment form (name, email, optional website), plus your IP address and browser information to help detect spam. Your comment and name are public; your email is not. A coded version of your email (a “hash”) may be sent to Automattic’s Gravatar service to show your profile picture if you have one. Comments are checked by Akismet, an automated spam filter run by Automattic, and are kept while they’re published. Email me to have yours removed.

Emails you send me

If you email me, I use your message and address to reply, and keep them only as long as needed.

Website analytics

I use Independent Analytics, a WordPress plugin that counts page views and shows which pages and links bring visitors to the site. It runs on my own web hosting, doesn’t use cookies, and doesn’t send data to any outside company. My web host, Namecheap, also keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security.

Cookies, links and embedded content

  • WordPress cookies. The site sets cookies only if you tick “Save my name” when commenting, or if you log in (only I do).
  • Affiliate links. Some links on the site and in video descriptions are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Many of these go through Genius Link (geni.us), which records the click and your general location so it can send you to your country’s Amazon store. Amazon then uses cookies to credit the sale to me. I see only totals (clicks and sales), never who you are or what else you bought.
  • YouTube videos. Videos embedded on this site come from YouTube (Google), which may set cookies and collect information when you play them, under Google’s privacy policy.
  • Fonts. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when pages load.
  • Social links. Links to Facebook, Instagram and YouTube take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies.

Where your information is stored

Most of these providers are based in the United States, so your information may be stored and processed outside Canada. While it’s there, it may be accessible to courts and authorities under that country’s laws.

How long I keep it

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. After that I keep only your email on a do-not-send list, so you aren’t re-added by mistake.
  • Purchases: 6 years, for tax records.
  • Calculator entries: up to 3 years.
  • Comments: while published.
  • Emails to me: as long as needed to help you.

How I protect it

I’m the only person with access. My accounts use strong passwords and two-step verification, and I use reputable providers with their own security programs.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe at any time. You can also ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, by emailing joe@rippedseniors.com. I’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with my answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Age

Ripped Seniors is for adults. It isn’t directed at anyone under 18, and I don’t knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If I change this policy, I’ll post the new version here with a new effective date. I’ll mention significant changes in the newsletter.
